Democrats wonder why they are being deserted by the same people that elected them to majorities in both houses and the Presidency in the last election. Republicans on the other hand, are scrambling to pick up those disaffected conservatives who are now creating their own political movement. While liberals wring their hands and shake their heads over their disappointment that the Democrats that were elected to office totally failed to live up to their rhetoric and our expectations as the Party of change, the candidates keep moving in the direction of encouraging disaffection. We can't endorse the radical right and can't bring ourselves to support what used to be considered the liberal or even moderate left, because with rare exception no one is living up to even that role.
This administration and the Democratic leadership, has become the government of hapless hopelessness. Hopelessness that politicians can think: beyond preparing for the next election, beyond putting pettiness above the public's interests and beyond self preservation, fear of the loss of campaign funding from those who have a vested interest in the status quo. Just look at the mess we got as an excuse for health care reform. Sure the public got something out of it (little if any of it right now, just wait... by 2012 it will all make sense) but the insurance industry and providers got much more, right now.
We've traded one ongoing senseless war in the Middle East for another endless one against an entire religion that we have proclaimed as the antithesis of everything we hold dear; and so we unleash our own inner demon, proclaiming ourselves as the new Crusaders, painting crosses on our unmanned drones (an apt description of our military strategy - kill randomly without discretion, take no responsibility). We spread terror across an entire region in the name of stopping it at home. Religious war has become our greatest obsession and war, nearly our only industry. If it weren't for the bail outs we would all be buying Kia's now. Does anyone know where all the weapons, vehicles, support hardware and ammunition, subcontractors and mercenaries we use come from? It's got to be a multi trillion dollar industry. It may be the only industry left to drive our economy. Great!? We have become our own worst nightmare. A superpower dependent on military conflict for it's own prosperity. Meanwhile, China sits back holding more and more of our debt and becoming the only country with an economy based on the production of goods. We will soon be nothing more than a client state, fighting their wars for them. We won't be able to afford not to. Send your youth off to some foreign land to die so that we can afford to buy more of what we no longer produce.
At home we are encouraged to stay in conflict with ourselves, pitting the "used to haves" against the "never hads" so that the "we got it alls" can keep it to themselves. While we squabble over who deserves to be here, our economy is being drained into some sort of Twilight Zone where everything has had its value sucked out of it by financial vampires who are now holding all the money and demanding more to feed their never ending appetite. Distract the masses with scary Boogie Men dressed in robes and turbans, and threatening hordes of desperate poverty stricken people, black, brown, yellow or otherwise, who have always been used in an overlooked, exploitive economy to keep costs down and profits up. Never-mind that man behind the curtain, pay no attention to him... just keep your eye on the vision that never was and listen to the vitriol spewing out of the mouths of secular as well as non secular "Evangelists" that allows you to blame some other poor schmuck for the fears spoon fed to you by the unseen hand behind the curtain. Click your heels America, click your heels! I want real democracy, I want real democracy. Say it with me.

Coco & Igor
Coco & Igor: see it if you like art deco, really old cars, incredible couture, unbelievable music, Paris, French, Russian, interior decor, black and white, gorgeous close-ups, lips to die for, passionate sex, on screen orgasms, wooden acting, beautiful people, to be taken away to another time and place. God, did the earring really mean something?

Trenches
My God doesn't make trenches to put people in, expecting them to
follow the trench wherever it leads. If anything that's what human
beings do. We create great trenches that are intended for everyone in
order to establish order and maintain control. In my view, God is
there to help people out of those trenches, S/he is there to assist
them to become aware of the unlimited potential that existence offers
and guidance in the pursuit of the fulfillment of the opportunity that
is only limited by their own lack of imagination.
